Kindergarten Registration

Registration day is April 14, 2010! If you know a child who will be turning 5 before August 1, 2010 and is ready to come to Kindergarten, it is time to register them for school. By registering your child, it helps us make plans for next year. On the day of registration, you and your child will need to bring:

Your child's original birth certificate
An updated shot record
Proof of residency
Social Security number
Custody papers, if applicable

At registration, children will have their vision and hearing checked, a speech screening and a short academic readiness screening. At that time, parents will learn more about Kindergarten, be able to meet with the teachers and fill out paperwork. Please call the office of Highland West at 419-253-2371 to set up an appointment.

What's Happening

Yearbook Sale - January 25-February 5. The price for a yearbook is $12.00 each.

Winter Olympics - February 17. More info to come.

Scots Program - This program is for extra assistance for grades 3,4, and 5 and will start March 2nd and conclude April 15th. The Scots Program will focus on test taking skills, old test questions, concepts and skills for Reading and Math. The goal is to provide extra assistance and prepare our students for success on the Ohio Achievement Assessments.

Cool Tricks Assembly - March 17th at 2:00 in the gym.

ATTENTION PARENTS!

Detentions will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30. The purpose is to correct student behaviors and academic performance. Students are expected to bring missing assignments with them. The teachers and Mr. Winkelfoos will be supervising the detentions. Parents will be informed and expected to make arrangements for their child to be picked up at 4:30.

Important Info

Student Safety and Building Security
Our number one goal and priority is the safety of your child. All doors except the northwest entrance will be locked during the school day. Visitors and volunteers are welcome and we ask that you report to the office to sign in and receive an ID badge.

Student Dismissal
It is extremely important that the office is informed in writing if there is a change in how or where your child will be going after school. Please inform the office of any changes in advance or by 3:00PM. This will ensure that all of our students and staff are aware of the changes and they get home safely.

Student Pick Ups
All students that will be picked up after school will be required to report to the gym. Parents may enter the building to do so or get in the pick up line. Any student that will be picked up will be given (2) index cards at the beginning of the year with their name on it. We ask parents to present them to our dismissal staff or display them in their car window when in the pick up line. Your child will be brought to your vehicle. If your child's card is not provided at this time, we will ask you to come to the office to get another card. Parents that pick up their child in the building, will be required to sign them out from the gym. This procedure is to ensure that your child gets home safely and properly.
