HHS Scholarships

Listed below are scholarship opportunities for the Class of 2024, as they become available. Please click on each link for details and deadlines.

Please keep in mind, your college of attendance will be where you will receive scholarship funds through merit-based scholarships, need based scholarships, grants and work study opportunities. It is your responsibility to ensure your completed applications are in to your college by the college due date to be considered for their scholarships and awards. These vary by college, however many of those deadlines occur as early as November 1st. You can find them by searching merit scholarships or financial aid deadlines on college websites. You should contact financial aid at the college you plan on attending to inquire about scholarship opportunities and ways to reduce your total college cost. 

Transcripts can be requested via Parchment, search your school email for emails from Parchment to create your account. Make sure to use a personal email address, when creating your account, so you always have access. If you need a paper copy of your transcript and do not have access to a printer, email Ms. Kennedy at jordan_k@hlsd.us or Mrs. Pauley at katie_p@hlsd.us

Scholarships

Columbus Foundation Scholarships- online scholarship portal offering over 100 potential scholarships available to students. Applying through the online general application places you in the running for more than 90 potential scholarships. Fishburn Family Scholarship is completed via the general application. Deadline: to apply for the online general application is March 22, 2024. Please note each scholarship may have its own deadline to be aware of out of the more than 100 potential scholarship opportunities. UPDATED DEADLINE

Fishburn Family Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any senior planning on pursuing a four-year degree full-time. Students must have a minimum 2.7 GPA. This scholarship is given on behalf of the Fishburn family as a way of honoring Karen Fishburn and all of her hard work and dedication to Morrow County and its residents. This scholarship involves several steps, please do not wait until the last minute to apply! Deadline: March 22nd, 2024 by 5:00PM. UPDATED DEADLINE

The Little Things Matter Scholarship 2024– This scholarship, in honor of Emma West, is open to all seniors planning to attend a post-secondary college or university to pursue a degree in human services, psychology, mental health, or social work. Emma wanted to help people, it is the kind-hearted spirit that these fields of study require that remind us of her everyday. This scholarship is provided through The Highland Youth Scholarship Opportunities (HYSO) formerly Highland Youth Softball. Application and essay must be mailed or emailed to the information listed on the application. Deadline: March 23, 2024. Copies in the guidance office. 

Ohio Gas Association Scholarship– Applicants must have a career goal in natural gas or a related energy field. Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Scholarships are limited to undergraduate college studies,  technical or trade school programs. Deadline: March 29, 2024. 

Morrow County Soil and Water Scholarships– Please view each application for additional information. McGinnis Scholarship, Steve Ruhl Scholarship, Wuertz Scholarship, and Morrow SWCD Annual Scholarship. Deadline: March 29, 2024 by 4:30PM

Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation ScholarshipsThe Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is pleased to administer scholarships on behalf of agricultural partners and families who wish to support future generations and help assure a well-qualified and professional agricultural workforce in Ohio while supporting farming communities. Collectively, these programs will award over $50,000 in 2024, each featuring awards from $500 to over $3000. In addition, some county Farm Bureaus have their own scholarship programs. Visit ofbf.org/counties to access the county websites for more information. Deadlines for these scholarships vary.

Ben and Helen Swank ScholarshipDr. C. William Swank helped Ohio Farm Bureau grow into the advocacy organization it is today, all the while keeping the economic and social well being of farm families top of mind. This scholarship is presented in his honor. Applicants must be an Ohio resident and the applicant or parent must be Ohio Farm Bureau members. Special consideration given for graduates of Explore Ag or State Fair ambassadors or interns. PLEASE NOTE – there is no autosave feature to this application. Please write your essay before beginning this form and have all of your documentation required ready prior to beginning. Deadline: March 31, 2024.

Marengo Memorial Post 710 American Legion Scholarship– This scholarship is available to any Highland senior pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities. Priority will be given to families whose parents were in the military or families with a military background. Applications must be mailed to the Marengo Memorial Post 710 Scholarship Committee, The American Legion, PO Box 77 Marengo, OH 43334. Deadline: March 31, 2024. Copies in the guidance office. 

Morrow County Pork Producers Scholarship– The Morrow County Pork Producers will be sponsoring scholarships to qualified candidates. Scholarship preference will be given to students who are actively involved in the pork industry. Students may be majoring in any field of study, which leads to a post-high school degree. The application, head and shoulders photograph, and two letters of recommendation are required. Deadline: April 1, 2024. Copies in guidance office. 

Kiwanis Club of Morrow County Scholarshipthis scholarship is open to any senior planning on attending posts secondary education. Five winners from Morrow County schools will be chosen. Paper copies of application are in the guidance office. Completed application, essay, two letters of recommendation and your high school transcript must be included. Deadline: April 12, 2024. All materials must be submitted to Ms. Kennedy. Copies in guidance office. 

Highland Athletic Booster Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any Highland senior that participated in high school sports while at Highland that plans on attending a post-secondary education program upon graduating. Deadline: April 14, 2024. Email application and essay to Derek Bower at derek_b@hlsd.us.

Ohio Association for Gifted Children College Scholarship– Students who are identified as gifted or talented according to OAC 3301-51-15 in one or more areas are eligible.  Students must be planning to enroll in a  full-time in undergraduate program at an accredited college or university. Students who have received an ACT composite score of 27 or higher -OR- students who have received an SAT composite score of 1200 or higher (1600 scale) are also eligible. Deadline: April 15, 2024

Highland Education Association Scholarshipthis scholarship is open to any Highland senior that plans to further their education after high school. Deadline: April 19, 2024. Turn in application and essay to Ms. Kennedy. Copies in guidance office. 

Morrow County Chamber of Commerce ScholarshipThe Morrow County Chamber of Commerce will be awarding (1) $1000 scholarship and (2) $500 scholarships. These will be one-time scholarships that will be paid to the student upon proof of completion including 1st semester transcripts or certificate. Students must be a resident of Morrow County, attend a Morrow County school, plan to attend a college/university or trade school/vocational training. Students are encouraged to apply regardless of GPA. You must complete the application, a essay, list of activities, recommendation letter. The application, essay, and reference letter may be mailed to: Kristen Thompson at PO Box 174, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338 or emailed to director@morrowchamber.com. Deadline: April 19, 2024.

Highland Elementary Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any Highland senior that attended Highland Elementary school. You must have an acceptance letter from a two or four year college to be eligible. Please make sure your name and the name of the scholarship is at the beginning of your essay. Deadline: Email Mr. Winkelfoos (shawn_w@hlsd.us) by April 26, 2024.

Morrow County Township Association Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any senior residing in Morrow County who plans on continuing their education in any post-secondary education program. Mail to MCTA Scholarship P.O. Box 417 Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Deadline: April 30, 2024.

Beth Lyon Memorial ScholarshipHHS is honored to offer this scholarship in memory of Beth Lyon. This $1,000 scholarship is open to any HHS student that is planning on pursuing a 2 or 4 year degree program in nursing or other medical-related field. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0. Financial need will be considered. Doris Harris Memorial Scholarshipthis $250 scholarship is available for a HHS senior planning on pursuing a 2 or 4 year college degree in the fall of 2024. Deadline: April 30, 2024 to Ms. Kennedy. Copies in the guidance office. 

Janie Pruett Memorial Scholarship– The Baldwin Pruett Family Foundation is proud to partner with Highland High School to fund the Janie Pruett annual scholarship program. The program will offer a $1,000 scholarship to two  Highland High School students that are pursuing a career with the intention of helping others. The scholarship will pay directly to the student for  a university, school or certificate program of each awardee’s choosing within 12 months of graduation.  The school can be any that requires a certificate or degree to be earned for career purposes. Please turn in essay to Ms. Kennedy in the guidance office. Deadline: April 30, 2024. 

Marion Technical College Scholarship– MTC has a variety of scholarships available to graduating seniors who will be continuing their education with MTC. Deadline: May 1, 2024. 

Benton Mahan Art Scholarshipthis $200 scholarship goes to an HHS student who plans to continue their art education after high school. Submit an essay describing how art has enriched your life and the life of those around you. Include your future plans for continuing your art education. Deadline: May 3, 2024 to Ms. Kennedy in the guidance office.
