HHS Scholarships

Listed below are scholarship opportunities for the Class of 2025, as they become available. Please click on each link for details and deadlines.

Please keep in mind, your college of attendance will be where you will receive scholarship funds through merit-based scholarships, need based scholarships, grants and work study opportunities. It is your responsibility to ensure your completed applications are in to your college by the college due date to be considered for their scholarships and awards. These vary by college, however many of those deadlines occur as early as November 1st. You can find them by searching merit scholarships or financial aid deadlines on college websites. You should contact financial aid at the college you plan on attending to inquire about scholarship opportunities and ways to reduce your total college cost. 

Transcripts can be requested via Parchment, search your school email for emails from Parchment to create your account. Make sure to use a personal email address, when creating your account, so you always have access. If you need a paper copy of your transcript and do not have access to a printer, email Ms. Kennedy at jordan_k@hlsd.us or Mrs. Pauley at katie_p@hlsd.us

Scholarships

Highland Education Association Scholarship– this scholarship is open to any Highland senior that plans to further their education after high school. Copies in the guidance office.  Deadline: April 17, 2025. Turn in application and essay to Mrs. Kennedy-McPherson. 

Highland Athletic Boosters Scholarship– this scholarship is available to any Highland senior that participated in high school sports while at Highland that plans on attending a post-secondary education program upon graduating. Deadline: April 18, 2025. Email application and essay to Derek Bower at derek_b@hlsd.us. 

Morrow County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship– The Morrow County Chamber of Commerce will be awarding (5) $500 scholarships; one per school district. These will be one-time scholarships that will be paid to the student upon proof of completion including 1st semester transcripts or certificate. Funds may be used for tuition, books, room and board, or other expenses related to education. The student must be a graduating senior, the student must attend a Morrow County School (students enrolled at Tri-Rivers or Pioneer through a Morrow County School District may also apply), the student must plan to attend a college or university, trade school, or vocational training, students are encouraged to apply regardless of GPA, the student must complete the application form, including an essay, list of activities, and a recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, or civic, religious or volunteer leader. The Little Things Matter ScholarshipThis scholarship, in honor of Emma West, is open to all seniors planning to attend a post-secondary college or university to pursue a degree in a career field dedicated to helping others. The scholarship is provided through The Highland Youth Scholarship Opportunities (HYSO), formerly Highland Youth Softball. Scholarships are based on an essay written about “Why the little things matter”. Essays must be mailed to P.O. Box 433 Marengo, OH 43334 or sent via email to highlandyouthsoftball@gmail.com. All submissions must be postmarked by April 23, 2025. One scholarship of $2300 will be awarded. 

Highland Elementary Scholarship– this scholarship is available to any Highland senior that attended Highland Elementary school. You must have an acceptance letter from a two or four year college to be eligible. Please make sure your name and the name of the scholarship is at the beginning of your essay. Deadline: Email Mr. Winkelfoos (shawn_w@hlsd.us) by Friday, April 25th, 2025. 

Janie Pruett Memorial Scholarship– The Baldwin Pruett Family Foundation is proud to partner with Highland High School to fund the Janie Pruett annual scholarship program. Janie was a 1978 graduate of Highland High School and a 1982 graduate of Lee University.  Janie chose a career in sociology with the goal of helping others.  Her life was cut short in a car accident in 1983 while working at a residential camp to help troubled teenage girls.  We would like to honor Janie’s memory of kindness and helpfulness with this scholarship program. The program will offer a $1,000 scholarship to two  Highland High School students that are pursuing a career with the intention of helping others. The scholarship will pay directly to the student for  a university, school or certificate program of each awardee’s choosing within 12 months of graduation.  The school can be any that requires a certificate or degree to be earned for career purposes. Students interested in the scholarship must submit a typed one-page, double spaced essay, that describes how he/she chose her career path with the intention of helping others.  It can include examples of how he/she has helped others in the past, what inspires him/her to choose a career to help others and/or how your chosen career is needed to help make a community better. Include your name and plans after high school at the top of the essay. Due April 25, 2025 to Mrs. Kennedy-McPherson in the guidance office.

Beth Lyon Memorial Scholarship– HHS is honored to offer this scholarship in memory of Beth Lyon. This $1,000 scholarship is open to any HHS student that is planning on pursuing a 2 or 4 year degree program in nursing or a healthcare-related field. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0. Financial need will be considered. Doris Harris Memorial Scholarship– this $250 scholarship is available for a HHS senior planning on pursuing a 2 or 4 year college degree in the fall of 2025. Deadline: April 30, 2025 to Mrs. Kennedy-McPherson in the guidance office. Copies of scholarship in the guidance office. 

Making a Difference, Changing Lives Scholarship– This scholarship opportunity is to honor Emma West and the example she left. Emma made it a priority to assure everyone that their presence in this world makes a difference. That they matter and the world is a better place because of them. Emma possessed the gift of being able to brighten any moment or lift up any person’s spirits. It is in her honor and memory that we would like to present scholarship awards to an individual/individuals who will carry on this way of life that she set before us. Please read the full, linked application for information on the scholarship. Requirements: A paragraph or two of how you have or would like to make a difference or change someone’s life, details of your future plans after high school , and a little about yourself (what you enjoy, what you have participated in, what do you look forward to). Deadline: April 30, 2025 to Mrs. Kennedy-McPherson in the guidance office. 

Morrow Little Theatre Scholarship– Applicants must be a senior graduating in 2025 and attend a high school in Morrow County. Applicants must be majoring in an area of the arts (fine arts, graphic arts, digital arts, game and interactive media design, cinematography, film and video production, theater arts, fashion design, music education). Applications must be submitted by email at morrowlittletheatre@gmail.com or mailed to PO Box 86 Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Applications must be emailed or postmarked by April 30, 2025. 

 Jack M. Allen Scholarship– This scholarship is in honor of Jack Allen. Please read the linked application, for more information on Jack’s legacy and the characteristics the recipient of this scholarship should embody. Scholarship is open to any high school senior entering into a trade school/college/university. (examples UNOH, Welding school, horse shoeing school).
The scholarship amount is a one-time $500 scholarship. Deadline: May 2, 2025. Postmarked no later than May 2, 2025 to: Jack M Allen Scholarship 422 East Chestnut

Ramage Law Group Adopted Child Scholarship– $1,000 award to go to a student who has been legally adopted by one or both of their parents to be used towards college expenses. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Deadline: June 11, 2025.
