HHS Scholarships

Listed below will be scholarship opportunities for the Class of 2023, as they become available. Please click on each link for details and deadlines.

Please keep in mind, your college of attendance will be where you will receive scholarship funds through merit-based scholarships, need based scholarships, grants and work study opportunities. It is your responsibility to ensure your completed applications are in to your college by the college due date to be considered for their scholarships and awards. These vary by college, however many of those deadlines occur as early as November 1st. You can find them by searching merit scholarships or financial aid deadlines on college websites. You should contact financial aid at the college you plan on attending to inquire about scholarship opportunities and ways to reduce your total college cost. 

Transcripts can be requested via Parchment, search your school email for emails from Parchment to create your account. Make sure to use a personal email address, when creating your account, so you always have access. If you need a paper copy of your transcript and do not have access to a printer, email Ms. Kennedy at jordan_k@hlsd.us or Mrs. Pauley at katie_p@hlsd.us

Scholarships

Van Horn Memorial ScholarshipThis $1,000.00 scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Highland High School who will pursue a 1, 2 or 4 year program leading to a degree in the field of education. Students will apply through the Troy Foundation. This scholarship is awarded by the scholarship committee including a member of the Van Horn family. Deadline: March 24, 2023. 

American Legion Marengo Memorial Post 710 Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any Highland senior pursuing post secondary educational opportunities. Priority will be given to famlies whose parents were in the military or families with a military background. Applications must be mailed to the American Legion at Marengo Memorial Post 710 Scholarship Committee, The American Legion, PO Box 77 Marengo, OH 43334. Deadline: March 31, 2023.

Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation ScholarshipsThe Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is pleased to administer scholarships on behalf of agricultural partners and families who wish to support future generations and help assure a well-qualified and professional agricultural workforce in Ohio while supporting farming communities. Collectively, these programs will award over $50,000 in 2021, each featuring awards from $500 to over $3000. In addition, some county Farm Bureaus have their own scholarship programs. Visit ofbf.org/counties to access the county websites for more information. Deadlines for these scholarships vary, but many are March 31, 2023. 

Ben & Helen Swank ScholarshipDr. C. William Swank helped Ohio Farm Bureau grow into the advocacy organization it is today, all the while keeping the economic and social well being of farm families top of mind. This scholarship is presented in his honor. Applicants must be an Ohio resident and the applicant or parent must be Ohio Farm Bureau members. Special consideration given for graduates of Explore Ag or State Fair ambassadors or interns. PLEASE NOTE – there is no autosave feature to this application. Please write your essay before beginning this form and have all of your documentation required ready prior to beginning. Deadline: March 31, 2023. 

Ohio Gas Association Scholarship– The Ohio Gas Association is providing scholarships to students who have a career goal in the natural gas or related energy field. Students must be planning to attend an accredited Ohio college, university, technical or trade school and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Application, essay, letters of recommendation, resume, and transcript must be returned to the Ohio Gas Association Scholarship Foundation Attn: Scholarship Awards, 850 Twin Rivers Drive, P.O. Box 16958, Columbus, OH 43216. Deadline: March 31, 2023.’

Morrow County Pork Producers Scholarship- this scholarship is available to seniors in Morrow County that are planning to attend a post-secondary education program. Preference will be given to those actively involved in the pork industry. Must be entering into an accredited, post-high school academic degree program, resident of Morrow County or attending a Morrow County high school. Students can be majoring in any field of study leading to post-high school degree. Must include a head and shoulders photograph and two letters of recommendation. Deadline: April 1, 2023 to the OSU Extension-Morrow County office.

Morrow County Cattlemen’s Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any Morrow County senior that has experience or a background in showing beef projects at the fair. Two letters of recommendation and head and shoulders photo should be included.  Deadline: Applications must be in the hands of committee members by April 1, 2023. Applications can be mailed to Julie Logan, MCCA Scholarship Chairman 6891 Twp. Rd. 45 Mansfield, OH 44904.

Morrow County Soil and Conservation District Scholarships- The Morrow County Soil and Conservation District is providing scholarships to students going into the mechanical, agricultural, environmental, and natural resources fields of study. All available scholarships are linked at the website. Deadline: April 3, 2023. 

Janie Pruett Memorial Scholarship– The Baldwin Pruett Family Foundation is proud to partner with Highland Highschool to fund the Janie Pruett annual scholarship program. Janie was a 1978 graduate of Highland High School and a 1982 graduate of Lee University. Janie chose a career in sociology with the goal of helping others. Her life was cut short in a car accident in 1983 while working at a residential camp to help troubled teenage girls. We would like to honor Janie’s memory of kindness and helpfulness with this scholarship program. The program will offer a $1,000 scholarship to one male and one female Highland High School student that is pursuing a career with the intention of helping others. The scholarship will pay
directly to a university, school or certificate program of each awardee’s choosing within 12 months of graduation. The school can be any that requires a certificate or degree to be earned
for career purposes. All submissions should be given to Ms. Kennedy in the guidance office. Deadline: April 7th, 2023. 

 

Highland Athletic Boosters Scholarship– this scholarship is available to any Highland senior that participated in high school sports while at Highland that plans on attending a post-secondary education program upon graduating. Deadline: April 14, 2023. Email application and essay to Derek Bower at derek_b@hlsd.us.

Morrow County Women ScholarshipThe Morrow County Women will be awarding $500 minimum scholarships. To apply you must be a female, attending a Morrow County high school or residing in Morrow County with plans to pursue further education or vocational training. Applicants must have a college acceptance letter at the time of applying. Mail the application, high school transcript and essay to Morrow County Women, PO Box 55, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338. Deadline April 15th, 2023 (postmarked by date).

 Mt. Gilead Kiwanis Scholarshipthis scholarship is open to any senior planning on attending posts secondary education. Five winners from Morrow County schools will be chosen. Paper copies of application are in the guidance office. Completed application, essay, two letters of recommendation and your high school transcript must be included. Deadline: April 15, 2023. All materials must be submitted to Ms. Kennedy.

Morrow Little Theatre Scholarship– Applicants must be a senior graduating in 2023 and attend a high school in Morrow County. Applicants must also be majoring in an area of the arts. Applicable Areas: Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Digital Arts, Game and Interactive Media Design, Cinematography, Film and Video Production, Theater Arts, Fashion Design, Music Education. Applications can be submitted by email at morrowlittletheatre@gmail.com or mailed to PO Box 86, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338. Deadline: Emailed by or postmarked by April 15th, 2023.

Morrow County Chamber of Commerce ScholarshipThe Morrow County Chamber of Commerce will be awarding (1) $1000 scholarship and (2) $500 scholarships. These will be one-time scholarships that will be paid to the student upon proof of completion including 1st semester transcripts or certificate. Students must be a resident of Morrow County, attend a Morrow County school, plan to attend a college/university or trade school/vocational training. Students are encouraged to apply regardless of GPA. You must complete the application, an essay, list of acitivites, recommendation letter. The application, essay, and recommendation letter may be mailed to: Kristen Thompson at PO Box 174, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338 or emailed to director@morrowchamber.com. Deadline: April 21, 2023.

Highland Education Association Scholarshipthis scholarship is open to any Highland senior that plans to further their education after high school. Deadline: April 21, 2023. Turn in application and essay to Ms. Kennedy.

Highland Elementary Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any Highland senior that attended Highland Elementary school. You must have an acceptance letter from a two or four year college to be eligible. Please make sure your name and the name of the scholarship is at the beginning of your essay. Deadline: Email Mr. Winkelfoos (shawn_w@hlsd.us) by Friday, April 28th, 2023.

Morrow County Township Scholarship- this scholarship is available to any senior residing in Morrow County who plans on continuing their education in any post-secondary education program. Mail to MCTA Scholarship P.O. Box 417 Mount Gilead, OH 43338. Deadline: April 30, 2023.

Gene M. Adkins Memorial Scholarship– This scholarship has been established in memory of our son and brother, Gene Adkins, who was a student-athlete at Highland High School at the time of his tragic death on October 23, 2001. Through generous contributions, we are able to present The Gene M. Adkins Memorial Scholarship to one (or more) deserving graduating senior(s) at Highland High School. For the graduating class of 2023, we will present a total of $1000 in scholarship award(s) in Gene’s memory. Applicants must meet the following selection criteria and guidelines: Must be a varsity letter winner, Must demonstrate hard work and dedication, Must demonstrate outstanding character and leadership. Please complete the completed scholarship application and typed written essay based on the quote included in the application to Ms. Kennedy. Deadline: May 1st, 2023. 

MTC Scholarships– These scholarships are open to students planning to attend Marion Technical College during the Fall of 2023. Deadline: May 1, 2023. 

Doris Harris Memorial Scholarshipthis $250 scholarship is available for a HHS senior planning on pursuing a 2 or 4 year college degree in the fall of 2023.Deadline: May 5, 2023 to Ms. Kennedy.

Lubrication Specialties Science Entrepreneurship Scholarshipthis scholarship is available to any HHS senior that is pursuing post-secondary education opportunities to pursue an associates or bachelors degree in the following fields. Must plan on pursing a degree in science, marketing, business or any other entrepreneurship degree. Must have a cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher. You must submit a 500 word essay along with your future plans and degree you are pursuing. Please list your cumulative GPA.
